Discrimination
Adam chose to write his song about discrimination.
Often in these circumstances we can encourage empathy and relationship building through exploring ways we can communicate.
How could you use songwriting to communicate what is happening in your life?
Have you tried expressing difficult situations through music before? You don’t need to always use words you can just let your music speak for itself. In Adam’s song they use repeated patterns to express frustration, changes in rhythm and melodies, try using this in your song!
Try these songwriting prompts:
- What would my ideal future without this be like?
- How many ways can you describe the way you feel about this situation?
- What would you change about a current situation with someone and why?
- What are all the different ways you feel about discrimination?
Top Tip
As Adam says in his interview, you don’t have to try and change the world through music but you can always hope to shed a light on bad situations. You don’t need to overcomplicate your music you may find just writing out how you feel will inspire creation. You could refer to a diary or journal and create lyrics from your experiences.
